Porsche 911 (Type 993) was produced between 1993 and 1998.
For nearly 50 years, the 911 has evolved , defying his detractors, to the satisfaction of its owners. Even if all 911 models are still instantly recognizable, evolution has always been consistent and sustained.
Critics complained about the handling and that only experts drivers could control the car. Later still, this car was reduced to a fashion model representative of a certain status, but this vehicle had enough quality to survive despite competition from models with front engine . Contrary to expectations, it is the front-engine models that were eventually abandoned while the traditional 911, continually developed, helped save the company.
Always controversial , the 911 has nevertheless become the most successful sports cars. The wheelbase has been lengthened, engine capacity has evolved 2.2 , 2.4, 2.7 liters and 3.8 liters until .
The 993 was the last air-cooled Porsche , still 3.6 -liter engine , it produces 272 horsepower , and in 1995 received a further boost to 285 horsepower . It was also some subtle changes in the shape of the car (although it was still based on the original design ) .
To meet all the old criticisms of the handling, Porsche engineers have produced for the 993 , a new suspension to cope with the modern requirements.
The 993 is the 911 every Porsche enthusiast dreams of owning, if combines all the 911's best attributes with significant improvements in handling, ride and refinement.
Bodyshell At first glance the body of the 993 appeared to be nothing more than a make-over on the 964 Turbo. But there was much more to the new appearance than the pronounced wheel-arch flares. Following the example started by the 968, there had been cosiderable effort to replace the previous straight lignes of the 964 with, in the industrial designer's vocabulary, 'softer' lines. This trend would reach its peak with the later 996 model. Referring to the 964 Turbo wings as looking like 'big lips' around the wheels, Harl Lagaay considered the bulges on the 993 to be more muscular, and by inference more smoothly integrated. Along with new, lower headlamps, the frontal appearance of the 993 seemed more aggressive.
