TRIUMPH
The Triumph Motor Company was a British company manufacturing motor vehicles in the nineteenth and twentieth centuries. The brand came into being in 1885 when Siegfried Bettmann of Nuremberg formed S. Bettmann & Co. and began importing bicycles from Europe and selling them under his own name in London. The trade name became "Triumph" the following year and in 1887, Bettmann was joined by a partner, Moritz Schulte, also German. In 1889, businessmen started producing their own bikes in Coventry, England.
Leyland Motors acquired the company in 1960 and became part of the giant British conglomerate Leyland (BL) in 1968, where the Triumph brand was absorbed by the BL specialists division alongside former Leyland employees. Rover and Jaguar. BL manufactured vehicles bearing the Triumph logo until 1984, when the Triumph brand was retired, where it remained dormant under the auspices of its successor, the Rover Group. The rights of the Triumph brand currently belong to BMW, which bought the Rover group in 1994.
